Students Scholarships
and Financial Aid

  • Secured a historic $100 million commitment to the California Community Colleges from the Jay Pritzker Foundation, with the full amount expected to be the largest philanthropic gift to community colleges in the nation to date, and leveraged dollars to launch the Finish Line Scholars Program, a scholarship supporting community college students as they complete their educational goals.

  • Through the California Community Colleges Scholarship Endowment, established by a generous lead gift from The Bernard Osher Foundation, distributed $3.7 million in student scholarships this fiscal year, bringing the total distributed to $37.8 million since FY2010.

  • Distributed over $48,000 in scholarships to 52 students through the Real Estate Education Endowment, and awarded over $119,000 in grant dollars to support the California Community Colleges Real Estate Education Center at Saddleback College.

Cost Savings for Students and Colleges Through CollegeBuys

  • Partnered with 143 corporate vendors and industry leaders to realize over $118M in contract volume and $92M in cost savings to students, faculty, staff, and all 116 colleges.

  • Launched the Systemwide Technology Access Collaborative (STAC), which leverages economies of scale and centralizes the procurement of education technology resources for the system.

  • Onboarded three new Corporate Roundtable members, Civitas Learning, Grainger, and Unicon, and raised $315,000 in Corporate Roundtable memberships and sponsorships, with all efforts meant to help raise greater awareness for CollegeBuys services and cost savings, partnerships, and student support across the system.

  • Launched a Digital Transformation Hub for the California Community Colleges, which provides classroom technology resources to students digitally disconnected by the pandemic and connects all 116 colleges to affordable, accessible technology resources in a centralized location to virtualize delivery of education, professional development, and student support resources.

  • Convened the annual Purchasing Conference as a fully online conference with over 300 participants, both from colleges and corporate partners, to foster professional development toward greater systemwide collaboration/coordination.

Supporting the Continuation of Learning Through COVID-19

  • Strengthened the system’s digital resources infrastructure and support of virtual learning by providing broadband, laptops, and software to over 400,000 students through partnerships with California Virtual Campus (CVC), Michelson Foundation, and local California Community College foundations.

  • Secured 41 new CollegeBuys partnerships to support the system’s continued response to the COVID-19 pandemic and a potential future return to in-person instruction, with contracts connecting local colleges to discounts on PPE, virtual education technologies, and rapid COVID testing needs. 

  • Leveraged CARES Act, State Block Grant, and HEERF dollars to support 648,000 students and 116 colleges and address needs related to the pandemic through the provision of essential education technology support resources which ensure sustained operations during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. 

  • Introduced e-textbooks for students as a new component of the Digital Transformation Hub, made possible through expanded partnerships and investments to support the student digital journey.

Incubating and Scaling Statewide Programs Through Fiscal Sponsorship and Management

  • Onboarded two new mission-aligned Collaborative Impact Partners, Community Groundwork and EDvance, and provided fiscal sponsorship and management services to ensure each program’s ability to incubate, scale, and sustain solutions to California’s opportunities and challenges.

  • Secured 12 grants totaling $2.4 million to support three Collaborative Impact Partners, the California AfterSchool Network, California College Guidance Initiative, and California Medicine, a 232% increase in resource development support and amount awarded from the previous fiscal year.

  • Launched the Collaborative Impact Accelerator, which provides administrative oversight, fiscal sponsorship, and resource development support to mission-aligned programs or initiatives that help better California communities, and supported the initial member, Community Groundwork, in its work to prepare community college students for civic duty in their personal and professional lives.

  • Provided communications and marketing support for a portfolio of educational technology tools designed to help students apply, matriculate, and achieve their goals through the California Community Colleges.

Realizing Local and
System-Level Efficiencies

  • Onboarded 71 new user sites across nine existing markets and hosted over 71,000 clinical experiences for students through the Centralized Clinical Placement System (CCPS), made possible through the implementation of new Regional Capacity and Usage Reporting features for participants.

  • Implemented enhancements to FUSION, a web-based facilities management application of approximately 89 million square feet of college facilities, which included an improved user experience, ADA remediation, performance improvements, and the development of new training modules for colleges aligned to the Vision for Success.

  • Hosted 26 virtual conferences and events for the system with newly-implemented processes which created an enhanced and more equitable virtual event experience for all attendees, and began preparation for hybrid event processes to be used when a return to in-person professional development is deemed safe.
